Animals
Quite a few animals live in or visit our garden. Some are easy to photograph like squirrels, lizards, frogs and toads. Others are more elusive like mice, shrews, voles, rats, weazels, foxes and badgers but I hope at some time to shoot pictures of all of them.
Lizards
We often find lizards in the house. How they get in we are not sure since both doors are sealed double glazed with a raised bottom lip. They are very small and it is wonder they don't get trodden on. If we do find them we take them to the polytunnel where it is warm and there are plenty of insects, including colonies of tiny black ants, for them to eat
Frogs and Toads
Quite a few frogs and toads live in or visit our garden from the ponds and marshy areas nearby and sometimes even get inside the house. Toads especially seem to like hiding beneath the woven black polythene we use for mulching the cleared areas of the vegetable garden and there are usually a couple of frogs in the stawberry bed inside the polytunnel.
Mammals
Unfortunately most mammals visiting our garden could be looked upon as pests, for instances rats, mice, moles and grey squirrels but there are also other creatures such as shrews and weasels which are not. Actually I don't mind even rats and mice so long as they don't become too numerous and that is partly our fault for leaving food around for them to feed on. The exception to this is grey squirrels which I do not like. They steal food from the bird feeders which they damage, and scare away the birds. They also steal birds eggs and damage trees. It is a shame that they are quite cute to photograph.
Many of these creatures are elusive and are only active at night so getting photos is difficult
